I consider myself more than a doula, more than a teacher. This work is more than a choice, it’s a calling. We are birth protectors. We are birth guides. We walk along with you. Yes, there is much to be serious about in this line of work, and when contemplating your path of care and education to deliver your child, without trauma to yourself or your baby. There is also great joy to be experienced here. A right that birthing people have had stripped away from them as colonization and white supremacy spread. Birth is a huge part of our path to collective liberation.
It’s a feeling in my gut, a calling from spirit, whatever higher power you relate to, that we are meant to be shifting the way we teach and talk about birth and birth support for partners. We are meant to return sovereignty and autonomy to the birthing body and their families. We are meant to create birthing spaces where ALL families are safe, seen & heard. We are meant to protect the sanctity of birth and thus humanity. We are meant to TAKE BIRTH BACK! BACK TO OUR COMMUNITIES! Back to safety.
