dinner picnic | crane beach | 16 diptychs

short on words. been a strange summer. gear was stolen. as in camera gear. as in my dear sweet d7000 and my beautiful 35mm f/1.4 longer post coming.

hadn't taken a photo in approximately one week. picked up my "feels like a toy in my hands" d3000 today and popped on the 50mm f/1.4 and forced myself.

i saw this awesome lady (tara whitney) who i totally admire do this one time. well, she's done it a few times. the diptych thing. it makes me feel like i'm there. when i get to the end i always wish there was more. and what with my losing my gear and sort of going back to a basic camera for a bit, i've been forcing myself to think on some things i've been struggling with. maybe that's in the next post. but really, i didn't allow myself to edit these outside of adobe ACR, and what i did do was just sharpen and up the contrast a bit. editing won't change the composition of a photo, or the light, or the colors of that moment. trust the eye. we got to crane beach at 6:30PM (yep...that's us) and we played in the pink light and tide pools and sandy ripples. not much dinner was consumed and we got bit by a few greenheads, but the night was perfect. the boys had fun. they are sleeping snug in their crisp layer of beach skin.

i'm coming back... xo isabel

leo and the magic school bus

he hung out with me while i was working. of course couldn't keep working when i had this in the room. neither boy is a willing participant in photos these days.

edited with the new 80's photohut action from rachel devine. i am in love with these, have i mentioned? and they're soooooo customizable. and you know that because i used more letters than are needed in the word so and i so hate adding unnecessary letters to words. last two shots were misfires. that i ended up not being able to erase. i'm letting myself do that more. love imperfect images that i make. art isn't perfect. and my art is mine. last two shots edited with expired C41 and windowsill from spring cleaning.

back to work for me.

great cloth diaper change | boston photographer

a few months ago, while dreaming up ways to get myself and my work out there, i e-mailed salina at the diaper lab in somerville, ma. i wondered if she wanted some photos for the walls of the store. instead, i ended up being asked to photograph the great cloth diaper change. a large large LARGE group of people, trying to raise awareness about the awesome ways of cloth diapering. on april 23rd, they tried to set a world record by changing the most cloth diapers at one time. and i photographed it. woo!!

i was so glad to meet all the sweet little people and their parents and people in the community. it gave me such an itch to photograph families with little, fat, rolly polly babies! (hint! hint!) of course we had all been hoping that the weather would hold and it would take place outside. still, the babies were incredibly adorable. despite the dark, gloomy april day.

a few more will go up on facebook for your tagging delight! remember, i need your thumbs in the air if you want to leave some love on the facebook page! and i really hope i get to meet some new families.
